Taiwan Society of Perinatology

Established in 1988, the Taiwan Society of Perinatology is a membership organization for specialists of Obstetrics and Gynecology and pediatricians, who are interested in maternal-fetal medicine practice. The Taiwan Society of Perinatology is a subspeciality society of the Taiwan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Currently, the society has more than 500 members which include maternal-fetal medicine specialists, general obstetricians and pediatricians. A Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist is an Obstetrics and Gynecology physician who has completed an additional two years of training in maternal-fetal medicine and is experienced in high-risk pregnancy care. The Society promotes education, training and research relevant to maternal, fetal and newborn health, and improves the quality of perinatal care and collaboration among Taiwan maternal-fetal medicine specialists. The Society also proposes strategies, guidelines of high-risk pregnancy care and standardizes criteria for auditing and assessment in clinical care of perinatal medicine.

The activities of Taiwan Society of Perinatology include issuing educational news letter for the members bimonthly, holding symposium of perinatal medicine update for members and nurses engaging in high-risk pregnancy care every 3 months, holding the examination for specialist of maternal-fetal medicine every year, auditing the genetic disease inspection agency and Down syndrome screening quality. The other principal events that the Taiwan Society of Perinatology organized are the annual meeting of Taiwan Society of Perinatology, 1994 and 2016 Congress of the Federation of Asia and Oceania Perinatal Societies and maintain connections with international bodies in Perinatology.
